We had a map of the plots of land and luckily some of them were still available. Being down there at the location helped us to choose the best one from available plots.

We confirmed availability with Inkoo municpal engineer and made the reservation.

On June 12th, 2007 we were in Inkoo again, in the townhall, signing the deal. That day we became proud owners of 1100m2 “tontti”.

We lived in a rental apartment in Helsinki back then, and were about to move into our own rivitalo (terraced house). Me and my wife have already spent a few years in Finland by then, and a thought about omakotitalo - detached house has crawled into our minds.

They say every Finn’s dream is to live in own detached house on a lake side in the middle of a town (omakotitalo järven rannalla keskellä kaupunkia). We are foreigners, but it made it even more interesting to pursue the dream.

The actual project we have started only in 2007. We don’t have any house building experience, and there are a lot of challenges ahead, but I am sure this project is going to be fun. We’ll be posting to this blog our experiences – how it really feels like to build own house in Finland.
