How it all began…

Written by Ivan on July 14th, 2007

It all began in 2005. We lived in a rental apartment in Helsinki back then, and were about to move into our own rivitalo (terraced house). Me and my wife have already spent a few years in Finland by then, and a thought about omakotitalo - detached house has crawled into our minds.

They say every Finn’s dream is to live in own detached house on a lake side in the middle of a town (omakotitalo järven rannalla keskellä kaupunkia). We are foreigners, but it made it even more interesting to pursue the dream.

The actual project we have started only in 2007. We don’t have any house building experience, and there are a lot of challenges ahead, but I am sure this project is going to be fun. We’ll be posting to this blog our experiences – how it really feels like to build own house in Finland.

Found your blog just today. Congrats for your new house. Your early hickups reminds all those risks on the way…According to the latest pictures, it looks very nice.
As a matter of fact, we will build also “almost” along Road 51 – at Siuntio kk, getting a Jukka 175-4 on week 5/2008, and having the same inspector Vesa!

Looking very much forward your progress and wish you very good luck!
